Terms of Service

Version 1.4 · in effect from

ATLAS is a research prototype, made available for research and evaluation. Most of it is free; paid plans buy a larger AI allowance. These terms describe what that means for you.

What ATLAS is

ATLAS is a research prototype built as an individual MSc research project. It is not a commercial product and not a finished one. It is made available so that people can use it and so that its approach to personalised learning can be evaluated.

There is no warranty. ATLAS is provided as it is. Features may change or be removed, data may be reset between research phases, and the service may be withdrawn. Do not use it as the only place a piece of work exists.

Most of ATLAS is free, and every plan has every feature. A paid plan buys a larger daily AI allowance, more storage and more seats — nothing else. No feature is behind a payment, and an organisation that pays nothing can still read, practise, and use every AI feature within its allowance.

Paid plans

Plans are priced per seat, per month, in Sri Lankan rupees, and every payment is charged in rupees. A seat is a member of your organisation or an invitation you have sent that has not expired. Adding a seat part-way through a month costs a proportion of the month’s price, worked out from the days remaining until your next payment.

Payments are taken by PayHere, on PayHere’s own pages. The price you see at checkout is the amount charged: there is no conversion and no second currency. If your card is issued in another currency, your bank converts the charge, at its own rate.

Your card is never held by ATLAS. ATLAS keeps the card’s brand and nothing else, and it has nowhere to put anything more.

Access starts when PayHere confirms the payment. There is nothing to ship: the larger allowance, storage and seats apply to your organisation as soon as the charge is confirmed, and you can see them on your subscription page.

Prices can change, but not for a period you have paid for. A new price applies to new purchases. Your subscription keeps renewing at the price you bought it at.

A purchase can be declined — for example when the plan cannot hold your organisation’s members, or when PayHere cannot be reached. Nothing is charged when that happens, and the checkout says why.

Refunds. A monthly fee is not refunded once the month has started — cancelling stops the next payment rather than the current one. A clear billing error is always refunded in full. Refunds go back to the card or account that paid, in rupees, through PayHere. The full rules, how to ask for one and how to cancel are in the Refund Policy.

If a payment fails, your organisation keeps reading and learning. AI extras pause and the plain content stays exactly as it was. You will be told, and given time to fix it.

Unused allowance does not carry over. A daily allowance is a daily allowance; what is not spent today is not added to tomorrow.

Your account

Give a real email address — account verification and password resets depend on it. Keep your password to yourself, and if you think someone else has it, reset it straight away: a password reset ends every other signed-in session. What happens under your account is your responsibility.

You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live. One person, one account.

Do not use ATLAS for anything unlawful, or to try to reach accounts, organisations or data that are not yours.

What you upload

You may only upload material you have the right to upload — your own work, or work you hold a licence or permission for. Do not upload anything unlawful, anything that infringes someone else’s copyright, or anything you are not allowed to share with the other members of your organisation.

Every upload is scanned for malware before it is processed, and a file that fails is rejected. If you believe material on ATLAS infringes your rights, you can report it from the material itself. A report is reviewed by the platform operator, and if it is upheld the material is blocked — for every organisation holding that same copy, not only the one you reported. It stays available while the report is open.

You keep ownership of everything you upload. Uploading grants ATLAS only what it needs to run the service for you: to store the file, process it into the readable copy, and show it to you and to the members of the organisation you uploaded it into.

One official copy, shared

This one is worth reading even though it is unusual. ATLAS stores one processed copy of any given file, platform-wide. If you upload a file that someone, somewhere, has already uploaded, your organisation is attached to the copy that already exists instead of the file being processed again.

That copy is reachable only through your own organisation’s access to it, and nothing about you is revealed to the other organisations holding it — not your name, not your organisation, not when you uploaded. Deleting your material never affects theirs, and theirs never affects yours: the shared copy is removed once the last organisation holding it has deleted it.

There is one exception, and it is worth knowing about. If a report against that shared copy is upheld, it is blocked for every organisation holding it — including yours, even when the report came from somewhere you have no connection to. Blocking is reversible on appeal; it is not deletion.

AI-generated content

Parts of what you read in ATLAS are written by an AI model — image descriptions and table summaries today, more later. Everything a model wrote carries the ✦ AI marker and its sources, so you can always tell it apart from your own material, and the plain original is always one tap away.

AI output can be wrong. It is generated from your document, but nothing verifies that it is faithful to it — not a person, and not another model. Do not rely on it where being wrong would matter: the original is one tap away, and it is the thing to check against.

Availability

There is no uptime commitment. ATLAS runs on research infrastructure and may be unavailable, slow, or reset without notice. AI features in particular degrade rather than fail: if the AI service is unavailable, you get the plain original instead.

What ATLAS owns, and what it is not liable for

ATLAS’s own software, design and text belong to ATLAS. Your material stays yours, as the section on uploads says.

ATLAS is provided as it is, without a warranty. As far as the law allows, ATLAS is not liable for any loss that comes from using it, or from not being able to use it.

Ending your use

You can stop using ATLAS whenever you like, and ask for your account to be deleted from Settings, under Privacy & data — the Privacy Policy says what is deleted and what is kept.

Access may be suspended or removed if these terms are broken — in particular for uploading unlawful or infringing material, or for attempting to reach another organisation’s data.

Apps you connect

You can allow an outside app to act on your behalf. Before anything is shared, ATLAS shows you which app is asking and exactly what it wants to do, and it can only ever do what you agreed to on that screen — nothing else, and nothing more later without asking you again.

You can disconnect an app at any time in Settings, and it stops having access straight away. A connected app is not a signed-in device: signing out of ATLAS everywhere ends your own sessions and does not disconnect any app.

An app you connect is not part of ATLAS and is not run by ATLAS. What it does with what you allow it to see is between you and whoever made it, under their terms rather than these. If an app is doing something you did not expect, disconnecting it is the thing that stops it.

Changes to these terms

These terms carry a version number and an effective date, shown at the top of this page, and the version you accepted is recorded against your account. If they change in a way that affects you, the version is raised. Tidying the wording does not raise it. There is no notification when that happens yet — the version on this page is how to tell.
